Ready to Make Your 2020 Boston Marathon Dreams Come True? Here’s How

The Boston Athletic Association released its registration dates for the April 20, 2020 race. Get that BQ and mark your calendars.

Are you aiming for the 2020 Boston Marathon? Registration begins at 10 a.m. on September 9, the Boston Athletic Association announced on Wednesday.

The registration process for the 124th edition of the prestigious race will work the same way it has during the past several years. The fastest qualifiers from each age group and gender classification get the first crack and it rolls on until the field cap has been reached.

Registration dates:
10 a.m. Monday, September 9: runners who have met their qualifying time by 20 minutes or more
10 a.m. Wednesday, September 11: runners who have met their qualifying time by 10 minutes or more
10 a.m. Friday, September 13: runners who have met their qualifying standard by five minutes or more.
5 p.m. September 14: registration closes for one week

If space remains, officials will reopen registration for all qualifiers at 10 a.m. September 9 until 5 p.m. September 18—the fastest by gender and age group will admitted until the race is full.

The 2020 race also is the first year that the qualifying standards are five minutes faster for all runners. It’s the first time since 2013 that the times have been tightened—the qualification window opened September 15, 2018 and closes when registration begins.

“Achieving a Boston Marathon qualifying time and earning a spot on the starting line in Hopkinton is something athletes from across the world strive for each year,” said Tom Grilk, B.A.A. chief executive officer, in a written statement.
